Until August 27, 2022, the exhibition Folon. The Ethics of Poetry. Between civil commitment, denunciation and the hope of man. The exhibition was supposed to open two years ago but was never opened to the public due to the forced closure due to pandemic. Now the exhibition has opened to visitors, and for the occasion the Salette of the Borgia Tower, along with the Sala della Cicogna in the Innocent III Tower, are accessible for the first time.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Fondation Folon dedicated to Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon (Uccle, 1934 - Principality of Monaco, 2005) and is the result of a synergy between the Vatican Museums and the Fondation: the latter donated two works by the artist to the Vatican collections, namely A propos del la Création, a series of eight graphics dedicated to the Book of Genesis, and Guardian Angel, a bronze sculpture.

The central theme of the exhibition isFolon’s civic engagement between poetry and ethics. Divided into five sections (Man and the Metropolis, Man and Nature, Man and War, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and The Rooms of Hope), it is curated by Stéphanie Angelroth, director of the Folon Foundation, Micol Forti, curator of the Vatican Museums’ Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Marilena Pasquali, art historian and member of the scientific committee of the Folon Foundation. Also on display are some of the artist’s most famous posters created for important humanitarian campaigns and cultural events.
