Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet turns fifty: an exhibition in Pienza celebrates the film

From July 28, 2018 to January 6, 2019, Palazzo Piccolomini in Pienza is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Zeffirelli's film Romeo and Juliet with an exhibition.

An exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the famous film Romeo & Juliet directed by Franco Zeffirelli and filmed precisely in Pienza in 1968 will open at Palazzo Piccolomini in Pienza on July 28, 2018.

The title of the exhibition"What is a youth?" refers to the song that in the film resonated in the courtyard of the palace during the ball where the two young people meet: the music was by Nino Rota, the Italian lyrics by Elsa Morante.

Through this exhibition, which displays set and scene photos from the Zeffirelli Foundation, it is also intended to emphasize the customs and traditions of the Renaissance house, and visitors will feel as if they are participating in the filming of the movie.

The exhibition route will run from the courtyard and roof garden to the main floor of the palace.
In addition to the photos, there will be stage costumes made by Danilo Donati, now owned by the Cerratelli Foundation.

“What is a youth?” is promoted by the Society of Executors of Pious Dispositions Onlus, which has the care for the enhancement of the Palazzo Piccolomini, and the Zeffirelli Foundation, produced and managed by Opera-Civita.
