As of Oct. 31, 2025, for the first time since its construction in the 1930s, theHistorical and Cultural Institute of the Corps of Engineers in Rome, a building of more than four thousand square meters, will reopen to the public, thanks to a collaboration between the Ministry of Defense, the Italian Army, Defense Services and Arthemisia, with a new identity: that of a cultural center.
The museum itinerary aims to invite visitors to embark on a journey where ingenuity, technique and beauty are intertwined in the story of the history of the Engineer Corps. Among models, tools and inventions, one discovers how human intelligence was able to transform the challenges of construction, communication and flight into opportunities for progress. Objects testify to this visionary spirit: the original radiotelegraphic equipment of Guglielmo Marconi; a small display case also holds one of the very first telephones, an invention due to Antonio Meucci, flanked by its early evolutions: from field telephones to military switchboards.
On the occasion of the opening, two exhibitions will be set up: Vivian Maier. The Exhibition, dedicated to the famous American photographer whose birth centenary falls, and Ugo Nespolo’s Pop Air, presented in a world premiere, with his monumental inflatable sculptures that reinterpret works of international art in an ironic way.
From October 31, 2025 to February 15, 2026, the Genius Museum will host the Pop Air exhibition, a site-specific selection of works by Ugo Nespolo, one of the most versatile and ironic artists on the Italian scene. The exhibition, presented as a world premiere, officially opens the renovated spaces of the Museum, blending historical rigor and contemporary creativity.
Simultaneously, the exhibition Vivian Maier. The Exhibition will take visitors on an intimate journey into the universe of the American nanny-photographer, who became one of the most significant artists of street photography worldwide. Curated by Anne Morin, the exhibition presents more than two hundred photographs that recount, with an authentic gaze, the daily life and soul of twentieth-century cities. The project, conceived by Vertigo Syndrome in collaboration with diChroma photography, is produced and organized by Arthemisia.
