As of April 1, 2026, a new access system and a new route will come into effect for two of Verona’s most visited sites, thanks to an agreement recently signed between the City of Verona, the Teatro Nuovo Society and the Fondazione Atlantide Teatro Stabile di Verona.
Visits to the Courtyard and Juliet’s House will be possible only by reservation, with limited admissions organized by time slots and with separate tickets. In fact, a ticket will be available dedicated only to the Courtyard, where Juliet’s statue and the well-known balcony are located, and a full ticket that also includes access to Juliet’s House, with its interiors and the fittings of the medieval tower-building.
For both modes of visit, the entrance will be from Piazzetta Navona and will follow a route through some spaces of the historic Teatro Nuovo, which celebrates its 180th anniversary in 2026. The audience will thus also be able to pass through the foyer and catch a glimpse of the neoclassical stalls, breathing in the theatrical atmosphere that directly recalls the world of Shakespeare’s plays. This route is also designed as an immersive experience: costumed staff and visual content, including images and short videos, will accompany visitors evoking famous theatrical and film performances dedicated to the story of Romeo and Juliet.
The new system aims to improve flow management, making access safer and reducing crowding in the areas surrounding the site. The cost of the ticket for the route that includes the Teatro Nuovo and the Courtyard is 5 euros, while the full ticket, which also includes the interior of Juliet’s House, is 12 euros.
The Courtyard and Juliet’s House are open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. On the occasion of the Easter holidays, an extraordinary opening is planned for Monday, April 6, 2026 (Easter Monday) for the entire day.
“With this new arrangement, the passage to Juliet’s places through the Teatro Nuovo is not only a logistical solution, but it opens up a narrative threshold,” commented Marta Ugolini, Councillor for Culture, Tourism and Relations with UNESCO of the City of Verona. “At this moment of inauguration, I would like to thank the New Theater Society for carrying out the work and the Atlantis Foundation for their commitment to this first installation but, above all, to the training of the reception staff: their preparation and multilingualism will accompany the visitor in feeling immediately part of a universal story. Thanks to this synergy, the wait to enter the courtyard becomes for the visitor the first step in a secular pilgrimage to the heart of Verona. With the hope that this will be a prelude to a less hurried stay in the rest of our city as well.”
“The opening to the public of the new museum route to the Courtyard,” added Stefania Zivelonghi, Councillor for Security, “represents the outcome of long and articulated work between the public and private sectors, sought for years and concluded thanks to the determination and will of all parties involved. At last, residents and shopkeepers will be able to safely experience transit on Via Cappello even in conjunction with large tourist flows.”
“The project, unique in the public-private agreement, has as its objective the enhancement of the myth of Juliet through a museum route of undoubted interest: moreover, on the profits that will derive from this initiative, both the Teatro Nuovo company and the Atlantide Foundation are committed to dedicate them exclusively to carry out theatrical activities for the enjoyment and interest of the city of Verona,” concluded Zeno Poggi, president of the Teatro Nuovo company.
