European Heritage Label 2021: six Italian sites nominated

Six Italian sites are nominated for the European Heritage Label 2021, whose projects have been duly submitted to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. The deadline for submitting applications closed last November 2, as stipulated in the call for applications.

Among them are two archaeological sites, namely the Sanctuary of Hercules the Victor in Tivoli (Rome), pertaining to the MiBACT autonomous institute Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este, and the Archaeological Area of Pa estum , pertaining to the Archaeological Park of Paestum and Velia.

Also nominated are the historic center of Sarzana and two places of memory: the Ernst Bernhard Literary Park - Ferramonti Internment Camp of Tarsia, whose candidacy was advanced by the municipality of Tarsia (Cosenza), and that of Ventotene, advanced by the same municipality in the province of Latina.

For the first time, a national thematic site, called Terre d’acqua, terre nell’acqua. Delta del Po e Venezia, coordinated by the Veneto Regional Park of the Po Delta, which includes the National Archaeological Museums of Adria (Rovigo), Altino with its Archaeological Area (Quarto d’Altino, Venice), and Venice, all belonging to the MiBACT Regional Directorate Museums of Veneto, as well as the Ancient Delta Civic Museum of Comacchio (Ferrara).

By February 8, 2021, the Ministerial Commission will evaluate the best sites from the point of view of European relevance, project quality and operational-management capacity, with a view to submitting nominations, up to a maximum of two, to the European Commission by March 1, 2021.
Only one site will ultimately be eligible for the award.
