Genoa launches a call for bids to enhance the Unesco heritage of the Strade Nuove and the Rolli

The City of Genoa has launched the Rolli Lab call for proposals to select innovative project proposals on the UNESCO Heritage Site Genoa: The New Streets and the Rolli Palace System. Applications to participate by April 18, 2022.

The City of Genoa has launched in collaboration with Fondazione Santagata for the Economy of Culture the Rolli Lab call for ideas with the aim of selecting innovative project proposals on the UNESCO Heritage Site Genoa: The New Streets and the Rolli Palace System.

The call is aimed at aspiring designers and entrepreneurs, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, associations, spin-offs and individuals, who can apply individually or form a project team. Applications must be submitted by April 18, 2022. The finalists will compete during an event to be organized as part of Rolli Days in May. The four winning projects will receive a grant of 5,000 euros each.

The call identified four project areas:

GENOA PROTECTS - for the care, conservation and monitoring of heritage.

GENOA PROMOTES - for the promotion of the old city, with the aim of enhancing the system of the Rolli palaces and the Strade Nuove

GENOAINVOLVES - to stimulate greater community involvement

GENOAWELCOMES - for visitor management, site storytelling and heritage accessibility.

The area covered by the projects includes the core area of the UNESCO site, the historic center and the Buffer Zone, the buffer zone of the site to be protected and cared for: the goal is to give life to a cross-cutting path to connect heterogeneous areas of the city, from the historic center, the subject of special attention by the administration with the Caruggi Plan, to the Genova Blue District place of ideas and innovation related to the Blue Economy and the Lantern, a symbol of the city’s history.

“Rolli Lab wants to create a dynamic relationship between historical heritage and innovation, through urban enhancement and innovative ideas for the accessibility of places,” explains Councillor for Cultural Policies Barbara Grosso. “The Genoese UNESCO site thus becomes a propeller of actions, aimed at creating synergies between businesses and the culture of innovation related to our cultural heritage.”

“The objective of the administration is to encourage the growth in the local area of cultural and creative enterprises that, starting from the enhancement of the historical cultural heritage, activate processes of business creation and culture of innovation with particular attention to the economic fallout on the territory,” adds Councillor for Economic Development Stefano Garassino.
