From October 31 to November 2, 2025 Rome will host Guides for Gaza, a solidarity initiative organized in collaboration with EMERGENCY. For three days more than one hundred professional tour guides from the capital will provide their expertise to lead dedicated tours of Rome and Ostia Antica. Participation will be free and all proceeds will be donated to the organization founded by Gino Strada in 1994 to support the medical garrisons operating in the Gaza Strip. The goal is to help ensure free, quality care for the Palestinian population, which has been sorely tried by years of conflict, water and food shortages, and a health situation that has now collapsed.
The project, born out of a desire to combine the appreciation of cultural heritage with solidarity, will offer a rich calendar of itineraries aimed at adults and families. The visits will touch on some of the most representative places of the city and its territory, offering an opportunity to rediscover Rome and its surroundings through the eyes of those who tell it every day to visitors from all over the world. The official opening of the initiative is scheduled for Friday, October 31, with a tour dedicated to Caravaggio, a journey through the Roman stages linked to the life and work of Michelangelo Merisi. Also on the opening day, it will be possible to follow an itinerary on Baroque Rome, which will wind through the city’s symbolic piazzas, churches and fountains: from Piazza Navona to the Trevi Fountain to Piazza di Spagna, the heart of nineteenth-century and romantic Rome. In the evening, on the occasion of Halloween, a visit designed for families will be offered, Fantasmi, a walk among the legends and spookiest stories that roam around Castel Sant’Angelo.
On Saturday, November 1, the program will focus on routes dedicated to the discovery of the ancient city and its lesser-known neighborhoods. For children and families, a Treasure Hunt through the streets of the historic center will start from Piazza del Popolo, while those who prefer a more symbolic approach can participate in Roma Esoterica, an itinerary dedicated to the legends and witchcraft trials of the 15th century. In celebration of All Saints Day, the day’s tours will focus particularly on Roman civilization. With Birth of Rome you will be able to explore the Velabro area, where according to tradition the founding of the Urbe originated, while Colosseum and Caelian will offer a journey of discovery of the world’s most famous amphitheater and the nearby hill, which is less frequented but rich in archaeological and architectural evidence of great interest. In the Aqueduct Park, on the other hand, an excursion will be organized among the monumental remains of the ancient water infrastructure that supplied the city, an itinerary dedicated to the engineering and monumentality of ancient Rome.
Guides for Gaza is scheduled to close on Sunday, November 2, with a day dedicated partly to Rome and partly to Ostia Antica, among the best-preserved archaeological sites of the imperial age. The proposed activities will include tours for adults and children, with routes that will provide an understanding of the urban structure and daily life of the ancient port city. In Rome, it will be possible to participate in the Roman Forum and Palatine tour, an itinerary through the heart of antiquity to discover the places where the political and religious power of the empire was concentrated. Industrial archaeology enthusiasts, on the other hand, will be treated to a visit to the Centrale Montemartini, the capital’s first power plant, now converted into a museum and part of the Capitoline Museum Collections. The program will conclude with a walk through the Coppedè District, an architectural complex designed by the architect of the same name between 1915 and 1927, famous for its visionary decorations and for being called the “fairy district.”
Each tour can be booked by e-mail at visite@guidesforgaza.org or by WhatsApp message at 346 37 08 478. Agencies specializing in sound system rental will offer free radios and earphones to participants. Those involved include Young Tour, Musound, Silence Tour, High Frequency, Saimir Malo, Highlights of Rome Srl, Eko Sound, Listening and Voice.
The event was created with the intention of supporting EMERGENCY’s activities in the Gaza Strip, where the organization operates a primary health care clinic in al-Qarara, Khan Younis governorate. The facility offers first aid, basic medical and surgical care for adults and children, outpatient reproductive health services, post-operative nursing follow-up, emergency stabilization and transfers to equipped hospitals. EMERGENCY also supports the Culture & Free Thought Association (CFTA) primary care clinic in al-Mawasi, providing daily care to a total average of about six hundred patients.
