Twenty-five Italian municipalities have submitted their expression of interest to apply for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2028. Here are which ones.

These are the twenty-five Italian municipalities that have submitted their expression of interest to apply for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2028 by responding to the notice published by the Ministry of Culture: the applications come from all over the country and range from cities of art to inland areas, from villages to aggregations of municipalities.
The path toward the designation of the Italian Capital of Culture 2028 officially opens with this first phase. The municipalities that have submitted expressions of interest will now be invited to formalize their candidacy by preparing, by September 25, 2025, a candidacy dossier containing the cultural project, territorial development strategies, actors involved, economic sustainability plan and expected objectives.
Subsequently, a Jury of experts appointed by ministerial decree will select the winning city, which will be proclaimed by March 2026.
