An event, in Rome, to talk about the relationship between art and cinema. It is titled Filming Italy: Cinema meets Art the event that animates the capital on the evenings of June 16 and 17, 2025, proposing an unprecedented encounter between the world of cinema and the artistic and cultural heritage of the Capital. The initiative, promoted by the Agnus Dei Association led by Tiziana Rocca and realized in collaboration with the State Museums of Rome Directorate and Pantheon director Gabriella Musto, stages a dialogue between big and small screens and Rome’s symbolic monuments.
The Eternal City has always been the muse and set of famous films that have enhanced its atmospheres, from hidden alleys to the most famous monuments. Cinema has contributed to building Rome’s image in the world, with cult films such as Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, where the Trevi Fountain becomes an eternal icon of beauty and desire, or La Grande Bellezza, which enchanted viewers with its evocative night walks among Roman wonders.
Tiziana Rocca, General Director of Filming Italy, summarizes the philosophy of the event this way, “I am convinced that if art inspires cinema, cinema also gets closer to art. So we will open the doors of two of Rome’s most representative historical and museum sites, the Pantheon and the Ara Pacis, for an absolutely unprecedented and unique event in which the public will have the opportunity for the first time to participate in discussions with film experts, international and Italian stars, inside breathtaking monuments.”
The two-day event is shaping up to be an opportunity to get to know not only places already known for being featured on the silver screen, but also to discover new cultural connections and suggestions, in an interweaving of art, history and cinema that celebrates the Capital from different and complementary points of view.
The program of Filming Italy includes two days full of meetings and insights. On June 16, at the Ara Pacis Museum, Tiziana Rocca will moderate a series of masterclasses with special guests: at 7 p.m. James Franco, known for the Spider-Man trilogy and Hey Joe, will open the evening; at 9:30 p.m. it will be Lola Ponce’s turn, star of the musical Notre Dame de Paris. In between, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a meeting with Yvonne Sciò, interpreter of H.P. Lovecraft: Two Left Arms, while at 8:30 p.m. it will be the turn of Matteo Paolillo, actor in the TV series Mare Fuori.
On June 17, however, the Pantheon’s striking Pronao will host new master classes, again moderated by Rocca. Here they will feature, at 7:20 p.m., Fran Drescher, famous performer of the sitcom La Tata and president of SAG-AFTRA; then, at 8:05 p.m., there will be Darko Perić, well-known face of the TV series La Casa di Carta; and finally, at 8:50 p.m., Ilenia Pastorelli, star of Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot, will close the event.
The meetings will allow film enthusiasts to get in direct contact with artists and discover backgrounds, techniques and artistic suggestions, all framed by the magical atmosphere of two monuments symbolic of Roman history and culture.
The Ara Pacis and the Pantheon, symbols respectively of ancient Rome and architectural magnificence, become ideal venues for an original form of cultural dissemination, combining historical heritage with contemporary expressions of international cinema. These spaces welcome not only visitors and pilgrims, but also an audience of film and culture enthusiasts, offering a multisensory and multidisciplinary experience.
The event thus stands as an innovative model of dialogue between the arts, capable of enhancing the role of the Capital as a center of culture, creativity and international comparison, in a setting of rare beauty.
Filming Italy: Cinema Meets Art is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region, Roma Capitale, ANEC, 100 Autori, Agiscuola, Anica and CSC. A wide support that confirms the importance and quality of the event, ready to consolidate the deep bond between Rome and cinema, in a path of shared cultural growth.
