A unique opportunity to discover what goes on behind the scenes of an exhibition, before an artifact is displayed to the public. The Soprintendenza per l’Archeologia, le Belle Arti e il Paesaggio of the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo promotes the extraordinary openings of the Grosseto archaeological restoration laboratory, offering visitors the chance to observe up close the work that restores life to ceramics, bronzes, frescoes and mosaics.
Every year, this center of excellence welcomes and preserves precious artifacts, entrusting them to the expert hands of restorers who, with advanced techniques and multidisciplinary skills, ensure their survival over time. The initiative aims to highlight not only the richness of the finds, but also the essential role of research and protection in safeguarding cultural heritage.
For two weeks in October, from Thursday to Saturday, the laboratory located inside the SABAP headquarters in Grosseto will exceptionally open its doors to the public. Visitors will be able to observe professionals at work, witness the most delicate phases of restoration and dialogue with them, delving into curiosities and aspects related to conservation activities.
Extraordinarily, it will also be possible to admire some of the St. Casciano Bronzes, presented in the three different phases of study, restoration and post-intervention.
The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture through its territorial offices and with the contribution of Superintendent Gabriele Nannetti, is dedicated to all those who wish to get closer to the work of protection and enhancement of historical and artistic heritage.
Public openings:
Thursday, October 9, Friday 10, Thursday 16 and Friday 17: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
Saturday, October 11 and Saturday, October 18: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
