A national call dedicated to street art for a mural to be made in France

Gemellarte, an independent contemporary art festival, launches a nationwide call dedicated to street art to create a large mural in France.

Gemellarte, an independent contemporary art festival, launches a national call dedicated to street art on the theme Renaissance.

Under the patronage of theFrench Embassy in Italy, the new edition intends to unite Terni, the city of choice of the festival organizers, and Saint’Ouen, a city a few kilometers from Paris, thanks to a double artistic residency that will take place simultaneously between Oct. 26 and Nov. 5, 2020. An Italian artist will then be sent in residence to Saint’Ouen and a French artist will be hosted in Terni, through a public call. The works will remain the heritage of the two host cities, regenerating spaces usually frequented by young people and students, to emphasize the need to restart from new generations, as well as from urban regeneration.

The call to participate in the residencies in Terni and Saint’Ouen is free of charge, open until Oct. 10, and is open to all contemporary street artists, on an individual level, residing in Italy and France, within the Ile-de-France, with no age limit.
To compete for selection by the evaluation commissions appointed in the host country, it is necessary to send a portfolio in pdf format with a selection of works, a short biography, statement, a project proposal indicating the artist’s intentions (practical and conceptual), links to any pages promoting the artist, references (phone number and e-mail address).

The call is aimed at artists who, starting from their own research, intend to create a mural, site-specific work, fitting best into the social and cultural context of the place. The artist will then have the opportunity, during the residency, to get to know, discover and deepen the main aspects, on an artistic and cultural level of the city.
Applications should be sent to the email address candidature@gemellarte.it by the deadline indicated; the curators will identify the three artists and from them the candidate to be hosted in the artistic residency will be chosen.
The residency winner will be announced on October 14. The residency will be held between October 26 and November 5. The inauguration of the work is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2020.

In Terni, the French artist is to create his work, measuring h 4.7 x 3.4 meters, in the vicinity of one of the ancient city gates and municipal gardens. The work will be in addition to the various street art interventions made in the city center in recent years, including the murals Camouflage 05100 by artist Uno, Save our souls by artist MP5, author also of Playing Upstream.
In Saint’Ouen, the Italian artist will create his work measuring 6x10 meters, not far from the Seine and the Grand Parc des Docks, the new riverside park managed by the city and inaugurated in late 2013.

"We start again from here, from art. GemellArte, like everyone and everything, has also suffered a stop and a total rethinking of what we promised to do for this important second edition. But this year’s theme, thought of even before all this happened, is nevertheless perfectly fitting with the historical moment we are living: ’Renaissance,’ or rebirth, in this case of a space, but above all, regeneration of souls through art. The message of GemellArte for this new edition is just that: a stimulus to rebirth, to a cultural awakening that starts from the outside to enter each of us. A mural will convey the universal message of this new rebirth; as universal is the language of art,“ says curator Chiara Ronchini. ”Urban art succeeds perfectly in interpreting GemellArte ’s message for this 2020. Stopping and reflecting was necessary, and this has always been a prerogative of Art, so let us start from here. Let us open our eyes, observe what surrounds us and never forget what really matters-this is our Reinassance."
