Folder with two hundred erotic drawings from the early 20th century found

Announced the discovery of a folder containing about two hundred erotic and pornographic drawings dating back to the early twentieth century.

A folder with about two hundred drawings of erotic subjects has been found, for which the names of some important artists such as Amedeo Modigliani, Auguste Rodin, Alberto Vargas, Franz von Bayros, and Mirko Vucetich have been mentioned (the latter would be credited with the vast majority of the works). Announcing the finding of the sheets was Andrea Speziali, a young Ph.D. (class of 1988) in graphic design and illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, an appraiser at the Rimini court and artistic director of the “Italia Liberty” project. The folder belongs to a Roman heir who found it in his father’s archives and submitted it to Speziali for expertise.

The drawings, reads the statement released by Speziali himself, are “pastels, charcoals, colored pencils, watercolors and chine dated from the beginning of the 20th century to the Art Deco years along with a few works dated to the 1960s.” In fact, dates and signatures of the authors would appear on some of the sheets. They are almost all in good condition. The themes are all erotic and pornographic in nature: mythological episodes, orgies, brothel scenes, and figures of women in acts of explicit autoeroticism.

Some of the unearthed works will be on display at the exhibition L’education sexuelle. The Twentieth Century in Brothels between New York and Paris, scheduled from July 23 to August 5 at the Palazzo del Turismo in Riccione (Speziali himself is the curator). Now, of course, further examinations must be expected from the community of experts who will have to confirm or deny the discovery.
