A new work at Arte Sella: it's the Rebirth of the Dancing Forest by Rocco Yim

Arte Sella - the Contemporary Mountain presents the new work Rebirth of the Dancing Forest by Rocco Yim (Hong Kong, 1949). The new installation that will become part of the artistic-architectural journey in the nature of the Sella Valley, at Villa Strobele, and will be presented on Friday, September 16, 2022.

Yim’s installation is thus added to the composite panorama of Arte Sella Architettura, a project born in 2017, thanks to the collaboration with Marco Imperadori and the Politecnico di Milano, which has seen architects such as Kengo Kuma, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Michele de Lucchi, Atsushi Kitagawara, Ian Ritchie and Stefano Boeri, invited to imagine works capable of embodying the questions of our time and our relationship with the planet and the environment.

Rebirth of the Dancing Forest recreates the moment when, due to the severe storm Vaia in 2018, the trees broke, thus becoming a memorial to that sad event and at the same time a statement of hope in the aftermath of the natural disaster.

Visitors move freely through the space, being able to glimpse the position of the branches and float between the material and its shadow in a subtle yin/yang balance. The wooden elements follow a zigzag pattern and gently reach out toward each other. They thus form a kind of choreography reminiscent of Matisse’s Dance, and the sculpture comes alive with the shadows cast on the ground by the sun. The arrangement of the installation reveals the power of resurrection, the strength of mutual support, and the hope of being together. Rebirth of the Dancing Forest is meant to remind us of the fragility of the environment around us, but also of the strength of will.
