Artist Residencies in Stromboli: “Tagli” Brings Eight New Projects to the Island

From July 18 to August 3, 2026, the residency—founded in 2021—will host artists working in the visual arts, music, performance, poetry, video, photography, and dance. On August 2, the Open House will open the workspaces to the public.

From July 18 to August 3, 2026, Tagli returns to Stromboli with the seventh edition of the artist residency program launched in 2021 between the Sicilian island and Milan. The project, founded by Alvise and Ilaria Baia Curioni, welcomes artists working in various fields of contemporary art, ranging from the visual arts to music, from performance to poetry, from video to photography, and even dance.

At the heart of the residency is a period of about two and a half weeks during which the artists live and work on the island, sharing living spaces and workspaces. Since 2021, Tagli has hosted 40 projects, selected through an international open call that has received approximately 1,000 applications over the past five years.

For the 2026 edition, the following artists have been selected: Caterina De Nicola, Eugénie Didier, Lilian Mikorey, Matilde Cerruti Quara, Mirjam Loibl and Constantin John, Tommaso Santambrogio, and Witt Fetter. The residency will conclude on August 2 with an Open House, during which the public will be able to access the spaces occupied by the artists, meet them, and learn about the results of their research. The house thus becomes an open studio, while the garden transforms into a workshop space designed to change its configuration depending on the projects being developed.

The Artists in Residence

Caterina De Nicola, a multidisciplinary artist born in Ortona in 1991 and based in Zurich, works across installation, performance, sound, and object-based practices, exploring the circulation of cultural forms and the reuse of images, symbols, and materials in contemporary systems.

Eugénie Didier, born in Compiègne in 2000 and based in Paris, studied at the Beaux-Arts de Nantes and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, where she graduated in 2025 from Tim Eitel’s studio.

Lilian Mikorey, a musician and visual artist based in Munich, develops a body of work rooted in mythical narrative, field recordings, and object collection, combining sound and visual elements through DIY recording techniques.

Matilde Cerruti Quara, an artist, poet, writer, and performer, works with words, writing, sculpture, installation, and moving image, exploring the relationship between language, the metaphysical dimension, and storytelling. In 2026, she also founded Manifestazioni Magiche, an artist-led catering project that uses food as an artistic medium.

The duo consisting of Mirjam Loibl and Constantin John, both based in Berlin, formed after meeting in the worlds of theater and performance: the former is a director with a background in social anthropology, while the latter is a musician, sound designer, playwright, and performer. Their production *Woyzeck | Marie* was selected as a finalist for the 2024 Berliner Theatertreffen.

Tommaso Santambrogio, a film director and visual artist, focuses his work on themes of identity, separation, and memory, with an emphasis on the legacies of colonialism and oral storytelling practices.

Witt Fetter, an artist born in 1994 in Los Angeles and based in New York, creates paintings inspired by popular culture, history, and her own experience, reworking familiar images through color and composition.

Tagli was founded with the goal of promoting contemporary artistic practice through a dialogue between the local context and the international scene. The residency focuses on the creative process, exploration of the island, and the opportunity to develop new practices through workshops, meetings, and dialogues with the community.
