An evening event at MUSE to tell the story of the Dolomites, with sound installations and live music

On Saturday, July 24, from 6:30 p.m. onwards, an evening event will be held at MUSE - Science Museum of Trento to tell the story of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.

On Saturday, July 24, from 6:30 p.m. onwards, Fondazione Dolomiti UNESCO, MUSE - Museo delle Scienze and tsm|step Scuola per il Governo del Territorio e del Paesaggio are organizing an evening-event dedicated to the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. The exhibition Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site - Geological Phenomena and Human Landscapes will be inaugurated, the multimedia installation Il Pianto del Ghiaccio (The Cry of Ice), which aims to give voice to the slow agony of glaciers caused by global warming, will be presented, and finally there will be a concert by Friulian singer-songwriter Loris Vescovo. His songs will alternate with reflections by anthropologists, glaciologists, researchers and those who care about the future of these unique mountains in the world.

Uniqueness, beauty and fragility. Universal icons of the mountains, the Dolomites hold a heritage of material and immaterial values that has made them a World Heritage Site. In their shapes and colors we recognize unique geological aspects, but also fragile balances that must be known and safeguarded. It is with these premises that MUSE - Museo delle Scienze, Fondazione Dolomiti UNESCO and tsm|step Scuola per il Governo del Territorio e del Paesaggio come together to tell the story of the Dolomites: original audiovisual installations that sample the sounds of glacier retreat, author’s photographs and interdisciplinary dialogues suggest new looks at these fragile and unique environments in the world, in order to protect them more and more every day and make them accessible to future generations as well.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the inauguration of the new exhibition Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site - Geological Phenomena and Human Landscapes, curated by MUSE - Science Museum of Trento and tsm|step School for Land and Landscape Governance as part of the Network of Education and Scientific Research of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. The exhibition, set up in the new temporary space in the MUSE garden, consists of 24 thematic panels with photographs, illustrations and texts that help to get to know a territory, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.

This will be followed, at 8:30 p.m., by a preview of the multimedia work The Cry of Ice, by the Department of Electronic Music of the F. A. Bonporti Conservatory of Trento. It will be presented by five musicians, a glaciologist and an ecologist, authors of an original algorithmic processing/sounding system that allowed them to transform the annual trends of Trentino’s glaciers, from 2020 to 2101, into sound processes.

Finally, at 9:15 p.m., there will be Dialogue in Music on the Dolomites, featuring Friulian singer-songwriter Loris Vescovo. A conversation among experts, scholars, artists and musicians who, using different languages, will get to the heart of some of the most demanding challenges facing the Dolomite territories: from the effects of global warming to the management of massive tourist flows, from the search for the balance between economy and environment to the choice of sustainable development paths.

The event is free by reservation.
