Appointment in the Garden returns June 6 and 7 with openings and events across Italy

June 6 and 7 sees the return of Appointment in the Garden, the national event dedicated to the enhancement and promotion of Italian parks and gardens.

Appuntamento in Giardino is the national event dedicated to the enhancement and promotion of Italian parks and gardens: a heritage to be known, explored and experienced through extraordinary openings and dedicated initiatives throughout Italy. The 2026 edition will take place on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7. The event is organized by APGI - Association of Italian Parks and Gardens and has been held since 2018, the year proclaimed European Year of Culture, in collaboration with Ales Spa and under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and ANCI - National Association of Italian Municipalities. For 2026, the event also enjoys the patronage of the European Commission and the National Committee established for the celebrations of the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi.

Conceived as a true celebration of the garden, the initiative is part of the European framework of Rendez-vous aux jardins, an event taking place simultaneously in more than 20 countries. The aim is to bring the public closer to the extraordinary historical, artistic, botanical and landscape wealth preserved in Italian gardens, offering the opportunity to visit places that are not normally accessible and to expand the ways in which those already open to the public can be enjoyed. Also for this edition, the contribution of numerous protagonists of the sector will be fundamental: gardeners, botanists, landscape architects, private owners, public administrators, foundations and associations. All will be involved in telling the story of the garden world, highlighting its cultural and environmental value, delicacy and essential role in individual and collective well-being. The event will also provide an important opportunity to raise awareness of the activities necessary to preserve, restore and protect these precious green spaces.

Theme 2026 will be The View. An invitation to look at the garden with new eyes, to grasp its deeper meanings, interpret the traces left by history and be fascinated by its beauty. What do we really perceive when we look at a garden? Sight, considered the most rational and contemplative sense, allows us to recognize its shapes, geometries and styles, gradually guiding us toward an emotional experience. However, the garden is not just a physical space: it holds memories, imagination and aspirations. It has always represented a meeting place between nature and culture, where different ways of experiencing and interpreting the world are experienced. The theme chosen for 2026 therefore invites us to broaden our points of observation, to understand the complexity of the garden and to discover what is invisible through what appears visible.
