In Florence, visits open to the public are resuming inside the restoration site of the Bardi Chapel, frescoed by Giotto in the early 14th century with the Stories of St. Francis. Before the completion of the work, it will thus be possible, from April to June, on set days and times, to take a close look at the details of one of the great masterpieces of Italian art, whose recovery has been entrusted by the Opera di Santa Croce to theOpificio delle Pietre Dure. The scaffolding is on three levels connected by an internal staircase that reaches a height of about 11 meters.
The appointments will allow entry to groups of a maximum of ten people per shift, offering a choice between a simple or guided tour (in the first case, the public will be accompanied by the reception staff only; the duration is about 50 minutes, 30 of which will be for the actual visit. The cost of the visit is 10 euros plus the cost of the entrance ticket to the monumental complex, free for residents of Florence; in the guided tour, the public will be accompanied by a guide who will illustrate the pictorial work and the restoration work, the duration is about 70 minutes of which 50 of actual visit. The cost of the visit is 20 euros plus the cost of the entrance ticket to the monumental complex, free for residents of Florence). Starting today, reservations for visits in April are available on the Opera di Santa Croce website(www.santacroceopera.it).
The restoration work was made possible thanks to contributions from the Fondazione CR Firenze, ARPAI (Association for the Restoration of Italian Artistic Heritage) and numerous private donors, both Italian and foreign.
