Help Art in Hospital: artists called to bring art to hospitals in Cosenza and Salerno

A call to arms begins for artists around the world, a cry for help in this time of Pandemic caused by Covid-19. Many say that the restart will have to be under the sign of art starting from those very places at the center of the emergency, namely hospitals. Hence the idea of a call for artists in order to flood with contemporary art the Hospitals of Salerno and Cosenza, the two southern Italian provinces with greater territorial extension that are suffering the pressure of this crisis with the difficulty of a chronic emergency situation in which the health care of southern Italy finds itself. The Help Art in Hospital initiative was promoted by Roberto Bilotti Ruggi D’Aragona in collaboration with theVisual Arts Cultural Association and already boasts the adherence of numerous artists.

The donated works should be designed, if possible, for large spaces or outdoor areas with the opportunity for installation also in the gardens or outdoor spaces of the various hospitals.

Artists are asked to donate one of their works aware of the social role of their making, sensitive to the development of the therapeutic potential of their artistic discourse and line of aesthetic research. The premise of this operation is a neuro-aesthetic, understood as a visual bridge capable of transforming the physical place into a symbolic place aimed at messages capable of infusing pain support, strength and confidence together, combining tools of emotional leverage from dreamlike, imaginative, surreal evasion to the placebo effect, to ultimately stimulate complementary effects of therapeutic-scientific protocols. HAH - Help Art in Hospital is a project that bases its foundation on the assumption of the also social role that art plays and the influence it has on it. A margin as privileged as it is neglected is that of the relationship between art and medicine. What happens when art is brought into the wards of hospitals, what therapeutic effects does it have on patients and what support does it provide to practitioners? Case studies include Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and St. Thomas’s in London, the Fatebenefratelli Pediatric Home in Milan, and the Paolo Pini Art Museum in Milan. It has been shown that when a person is in contact with a creative activity (both in the production and receiving phases) he or she experiences a series of stresses at the physical, intellectual and emotional levels that lead to organic and psychological changes that could promote healing processes in the sick; it is a fact that this line of thinking is taking on an increasingly central role in health care practice, especially abroad.

In parallel with the project, the fundraising campaign for the two Hospitals is active. At www.art eruggidaragona.com you can find the Iban of the two Hospitals where you can donate, should you wish, in order to give even material support in the immediate to meet the objective needs in an emergency situation. All those who make the cash donation to the Hospitals will also be able to participate in the art project WOW! - We Own the Wave(www.spacewow.it/) by participating in the drawing of 100 donors, each of whom will receive an “author’s box,” containing an original WOW!SPACE and the photo of its author.
