The Borghese Gallery lights up with Tales of Light, tracing its history with art projections

The Borghese Gallery illuminates its back facade with Tales of Light: a visual narrative that combines history, art and technological innovation to tell the story of the Gallery's identity and its evolutionary journey.

The Borghese Gallery illuminates its back façade with Tales of Light, an immersive journey through an art projection that traces in chronological order the salient moments of its origin and development: from the purchase of land outside the walls by Cardinal Scipione Borghese in the 17th century to the construction of the villa conceived as an ideal space to house an exceptional art collection, to the many historical events, architectural designs, garden transformations and stagings that have taken place over time.

The shows will be screened from July 11 through Oct. 11, 2025, on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9:15 p.m., with multiple performances per evening, with a dedicated ticket and a set-up that will allow the audience to watch the show from the seats that will be set up in the Villa Borghese garden.

The initiative aims to be a powerful and evocative visual narrative that combines history, art and technological innovation to tell the story of the Gallery’s identity and its evolutionary path. The images, accompanied by an original soundtrack and evocative narration, will take visitors on a journey that is both intimate and monumental, made of restorations, works of art, transformation of spaces and overall visions, from the past to the present day.

Tales of Light is conceived not only as a tribute to the memory of a unique place, but also as a connection between past and present, between the solidity of cultural heritage and the expressive power of contemporary visual languages.

The initiative is part of the activities for the enhancement and enjoyment of the Borghese Gallery developed through PNRR funds, Funding Line: Mission 1 “Digitization, Innovation, Competitiveness, Culture and Tourism” - Component 3 “Tourism and Culture 4.0” - Investment 1.2 “Removal of physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries and archives to enable wider access and participation in culture.”

The show is available in Italian, English, French, Spanish, and LIS on July 11, 12, 19, 25, and 26; August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29; September 5, 12, 19, and 26; and October 3, 4, 10, and 11.

During the performance, the museum will be open for tours until 10 pm.

Reservations are required while spaces last here.
