A new exhibition dedicated to Andy Warhol at the Basilica of the Pietrasanta in Naples.

At the Basilica della Pietrasanta in Naples from September 26, 2019 to February 23, 2020, more than 200 works by Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh, 1928 - New York, 1987) are on display with an entire section dedicated toItaly and a focus on the city of Naples. An exhibition simply titled Andy Warhol and entirely dedicated to the myth of Andy Warhol, which aims to offer the public a comprehensive view of the artistic production of the American genius who revolutionized the concept of the work of art after World War II.

Immortal icons, portraits, Polaroids and drawings: to the Campania capital comes that Pop world that marked Warhol’s rise as the artist who radically overturned any previous aesthetic definition, through Star System and merchandising myths such as the timeless Campbell’s Soup, the silkscreened portrait of Marilyn derived from a frame by Gene Korman, the famous 1972 screenprints of Mao and the very famous 1964 Flowers.

Alongside works that tell the story of the American scene in the early 1900s, the Pietrasanta rooms also feature works that reveal Warhol’s relationship with Italy and a focus devoted to the city of Naples with his 1985 Vesuvius and the Portrait of Beuys, made in 1980 on the occasion of the exhibition held at Galleria Amelio.
