From June 10 to September 30, 2018, Silvestro Lega's hometown of Modigliana will celebrate his genius loci with an exhibition in the Pinacoteca Civica.

From June 10 to September 30, 2018, the Pinacoteca Civica di Modigliana (FC) will host a tribute exhibition to Silvestro Lega (Modigliana 1826 - Florence 1895).

Masterpieces by the “genius loci” will be on display, including some never before seen by the public.

Visitors will retrace the various stages of the artistic career of Silvestro Lega, one of the most significant painters of the Italian and European 19th century.
Starting from 1850, the year of the artist’s debut, they will reach up to 1895, the year of his death.

Among the works on display are"The Grandmother" and"The Newlyweds," and probably the only existing portrait of Virginia Batelli, his great love.

In addition, the"Portrait of Monsignor Mario Melini" made by Lega in 1856 and purchased by the Pro Loco for safekeeping in the Pinacoteca Civica will be given to the Municipality of Modigliana. The latter would represent the first Bishop of the Diocese of Modigliana.
