The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome will host the exhibition Capogrossi. Behind the Scenes, conceived by the Capogrossi Archive Foundation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the artist's death.

From September 20 to November 6, 2022 , the exhibition Capogrossi. Behind the Scenes, curated by Francesca Romana Morelli. The exhibition project is conceived by the Capogrossi Archive Foundation in collaboration with the National Gallery of Rome on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Capogrossi (Rome, 1900 - Rome, 1972).

More than thirty paintings and twenty papers from the collections of the National Gallery, owner of the largest museum nucleus of works by the artist (about forty pieces), private collections, the artist’s heirs and the Capogrossi Archive Foundation will be on display. An important role is entrusted to the original documentary material preserved in the historical funds of the Gallery and the Foundation, including numerous photographic portraits of the artist, also together with other artists and exponents of the world of twentieth-century culture, as well as documents of historical exhibition layouts, period catalogs, letters and newspaper articles.

An excursus intended to present a close dialogue between the artist’s first painting season, culminating in the tonal period, and the subsequent phase. The itinerary does not follow a chronological order, but assonances in compositional structure.

An important nucleus of works, some of which have not appeared to the public for many years, will be on display. Completing the exhibition is a room of works with an oval format intended as a continuous form, containing within it a compositional structure that seeks a connection with the visual-sound dimension of outer space, and a room of White Reliefs, conceived by the artist in the 1960s. Finally, the large tapestry Astratto (1963), designed for the Turbonave Michelangelo, owned by the National Gallery of Modern Art.
