At the Royal Library of Turin, an exhibition illustrates Leonardo's time

At the Royal Library of Turin, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo's death, an exhibition will be held that aims to present Da Vinci's time.

Celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci ’s death continue in Turin with a new exhibition that will be set up in the Royal Library from December 10, 2019 to March 8, 2020.

The exhibition, titled The Time of Leonardo 1452-1519, will trace, through precious documents kept in the Library, more than sixty years of Italian and European history: a period of great cultural ferment that saw the existence of great protagonists of the Renaissance and significant events that changed history forever, such as the invention of printing or the advent of Protestantism.

The exhibition begins with the Leonardo Room, where works by Italian artists contemporary with Leonardo will be brought together alongside his Codex on the Flight of Birds. Nine autograph drawings by the Da Vinci master will accompany the famous Self-Portrait.
It will continue with illuminated manuscripts, incunabula, cinquecentine, precious ancient maps, drawings and engravings, accompanied by a rich captioning system aimed at presenting the most significant historical figures and events that occurred during Da Vinci’s lifetime.
