David di Donatello for the costumes of Garrone's Pinocchio. More than 30 on display at Prato's Textile Museum

The Prato Textile Museum reopens May 19 and extends the exhibition dedicated to the costumes of Matteo Garrone's Pinocchio. More than 30 costumes from the film are on display.

The Prato Textile Museum reopens May 19 and extends until Oct. 25, 2020, the exhibition Pinocchio in Massimo Cantini Parrini’s costumes from Matteo Garrone’s film.

“We are ready to restart by taking all safety measures to ensure the health of visitors, as required by the Government Decree,” said Francesco Marini, president of the Museo del Tessuto Foundation. “During this period we have continued to be in contact with our public through initiatives promoted on social channels and the web. The consensus found by so many young people made us decide to extend the exhibition until Oct. 25 to allow us to satisfy the many requests received,” he added.

The exhibition features the latest work of award-winning film costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini: more than 30 costumes made for Matteo Garrone’s film Pinocchio, which won five David di Donatello awards, including the one for costumes that went to Cantini Parrini for the fourth time.

He is the only Italian costume designer to have won four out of five David di Donatellos since his first nomination, including three consecutive from 2016 to 2018), with the fourth for the 2020 film Pinocchio. He has also won numerous awards and honors, including Nastri d’Argento, Ciak d’oro and awards at major film festivals. For Matteo Garrone, director of the film Pinocchio, he has previously made costumes for the films Il racconto dei Racconti (2015) and Dogman (2018).

The exhibition itinerary is divided into two sections: the first is dedicated to the costume designer, his sources of inspiration and his creative work through videos, fabric samples, and historical garments from the 18th and 19th centuries from his personal collection, from which the costume designer drew inspiration for the creation of the clothes for the Pinocchio film. On the other hand, the second presents more than thirty costumes of the main characters in the film, accompanied by images from the film itself and some significant props.

The Textile Museum, on the occasion of the reopening, is changing its visiting hours: from May 19 to June 2: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Up to and including June 2, free admission.
