Enlightening Books exhibition in Milan, a solo show of Chiara Dynys' glass books

The Enlightening Books exhibition by Chiara Dynys (Mantua, 1958), which was hosted last year at the Mattatoio in Rome, has opened its doors at the Building Box in Milan, where it will remain until June 21.

A white bookcase contains a number of glass books, sandblasted and hand-painted in different shades of white.

The colorless space of the showcase, in which the elements that populate it seem to disappear, is lit directly through the books, individually lit from within, which semantically represent the light of knowledge.

For the creation of this work, Chiara Dynys wanted to rethink, in fact, what books represent for her. The installation, strongly visual, total, and immediate, thus pays homage to how literature has influenced the artist’s thinking and artistic journey over time.

Finally, the bookcase is a metaphor for archived knowledge, simultaneously turned in the direction of memory and oblivion. With this installation, the artist directly addresses the city of Milan, particularly in this period of uncertainty and change.

The books were not made on this occasion and for this reason, but - like all works of art - they interpret the world according to categories that go beyond the chronicle and, endowed with a multiplicity of reading levels, know how to speak about all human conditions, and therefore also about this one.

The illuminated books, “illuminating” both by day and night, thus serve as an immediate symbol, like all the obvious things that connect the gallery and the street, along with the art environment and the urban environment, becoming a tool for survival.
