For the first time in Italy, the works of Mexican muralists

It will be Palazzo Fava in Bologna that will host from October 19, 2017 to February 18, 2018 for the first time in Italy the works of the main exponents of Mexican muralism.

Palazzo Fava in Bologna will host an important exhibition dedicated to Mexican muralism. It is an exhibition with its own story to tell: the exhibition was supposed to open on Sept. 13, 1973 in Santiago, Chile, but two days before, General Pinochet carried out the coup, so the paintings on display as a testimony of friendship and solidarity with Mexico, a country that came to democracy after years of dictatorship thanks in part to the new form of artistic expression of muralism, were immediately sent back to Mexico. Since then the exhibition was known as"exposición pendiente"(the suspended exhibition).

Bologna will therefore host from October 19, 2017 to February 18, 2018,"México. The SuspendedExhibition: Orozco, Rivera y Siqueiros." It will feature 68 works created by the three main exponents of Mexican muralism, namely José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros from the Museo Carrillo Gil, Museo Nacional de Arte and Museo de Veracruz. Among the works on display are Alfaro Siqueiros’ Retrato de Carmen T. de Carrillo and Campesino cargando un guajolote by Rivera.

Fabio Roversi Monaco, president of Genus Bononiae, said, “It is an exhibition that has an absolutely unique appeal, because to its undoubted beauty is added the historical value related to an extremely critical period for all of Latin America. We are proud to host this collection for the first time in Europe thanks to the close collaboration with the Carrillo Gil Museum.”
