In Milan, a monograph on Roberto Ciaccio at the National Museum of Science and Technology

From January 24 to March 8, 2020, the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan is hosting 'The Voice of Metals,' a monographic exhibition by Roberto Ciaccio.

The Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan is hosting La voce dei metalli (The Voice of Metals), a monographic exhibition by Roberto Cia ccio (Rome, 1951 - Milan, 2014) curated by theRoberto Ciaccio Archive with the collaboration of Kurt W. Forster, architect, professor and art historian; Silvia Mascheroni, art historian; and poet Tomaso Kemeny, from Jan. 24 to March 8, 2020.

The exhibition focuses on the artist’s creation of works on metal. These works are slabs of different metals (iron, copper, aluminum, zinc) that, with their physicality and chromaticity, establish luminous correspondences with the Museum’s environments, creating a subtle weave of textural references and musical assonances between works of art and objects of technology.

The exhibition induces visitors to discover a different identity of materials and time: starting with the works arranged next to the huge Regina Margherita thermoelectric power plant (1895 steel, iron, black cast iron), continuing through those displayed along the track of the Railway Pavilion, as stages of a symbolic journey of Roberto Ciaccio’s life and life for art from 1971 to 2013, the year of his last major monographic exhibition in Genoa.

The exhibition traverses the spaces of the Museum in search of an ideal encounter between past and present, between functionality and the aesthetic reality of metal in a continuous dialogue between the place of science and the place of art. Testifying to this dialogue is a series of photographs at the end of the itinerary, works by Claudio Ciaccio, which are inspired by and reinterpret his father’s works.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalog edited by the Roberto Ciaccio Archive and dedicated to philosopher Remo Bodei, a frequent curator of previous exhibitions and a friend of Ciaccio’s. The volume is published by Corraini Edizioni with graphic design by Origoni Steiner Architetti Associati.

The exhibition is produced by the Roberto Ciaccio Archive Association with the support of Villa Imperiale Pesaro, Fondazione Angelo Gianni Baggi, and technical sponsors Ciaccio Arte, FiberEUse and Bordeauxpertutti.
