Laura Mircea in Reggio Emilia: cartographies of matter between painting, sculpture and signs of the world

Bonioni Arte Gallery in Reggio Emilia is hosting Laura Mircea's solo exhibition from April 18 to May 31, 2026, accompanied by a critical text by Fabrizio Guerrini. The artist presents conceptual maps of the world between painting and sculpture, investigating invisible networks, matter and transformations.

From April 18 to May 31, 2026, Bonioni Arte Gallery in Reggio Emilia is hosting a solo exhibition by Laura Mircea entitled Laura Mircea. Between Drifts and Movements, accompanied by a critical text by Fabrizio Guerrini. The opening is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 6 p.m. at the gallery’s spaces in Corso Garibaldi 43. The exhibition project is part of a cycle of collaborations involving several Italian exhibition realities and intended to support the dissemination of the artist’s work through a network system among galleries.

“The maps of Laura Mircea, ’cartographer’ of an emotion, show the imprecision of memory and a lived experience,” writes Fabrizio Guerrini. “Europe, Asia, islands, oceans are deformed from the real, have borders made liquid, unusual, different from work to work. The creative force of the artist makes each map unique, almost wanting to capture the moment of the Drift of the Continents, waiting for the next one. In his works there is, perhaps, the beginning of a new geography that speaks to the sensitive heart of the viewer. Let the journey begin....”

“The gallery model to which we were accustomed has changed and is still changing,” says gallery owner Federico Bonioni. “It is fundamental to rethink our work and our activity, the relationship with artists, the best way to intercept the interest of collectors. In our opinion, it is fundamental to ”network," to dialogue with colleagues, to join forces to support artists of the present and propose quality projects, making them circulate in various Italian cities. And the idea of networking can be extended to other areas as well - as in the case of Wise Boutique, which, at the same time as the exhibition, is presenting a new art-focused exhibit - to reach a wide and diverse audience."

The exhibition presents a selection of recent works that return Laura Mircea’s research focused on the construction of conceptual maps of the world. The artist’s work is developed around the idea of connection between peoples, communication systems that are not immediately visible and traces produced by human intervention on the natural environment. The result is an investigation that lies between painting and sculpture, where the pictorial surface takes on a plastic dimension and the material becomes a narrative support.

The works in the exhibition include about twenty wall works made on everted and introflexed panels, along with some sculptures. The ensemble is of recent production and builds a coherent path that highlights the evolution of the artist’s language. The use of natural and mineral materials constitutes a central element of his practice: quartz, topaz, hematite, volcanic dust, oxidations and copper green compose a layered visual lexicon, aimed at investigating the transformations of the Earth and the relationship between man and nature, with the goal of suggesting possible alternative balances between organic systems and anthropic intervention.

The exhibition project is promoted by six Italian galleries that have chosen to share a common program to support the artist and disseminate his work. In addition to Galleria Bonioni Arte, Vecchiato Arte of Padua, Galleria Arte Vega of Messina, Art Luxury Gallery of Milan, Galleria Lara, Alberto and Rino Costa of Valenza, and Matteo Ragni Arte Contemporanea of Forlì are participating.

In this context, Wise Boutique in Reggio Emilia, located at Via Emilia San Pietro 1/I, presents on the same day an installation developed in collaboration with Bonioni Arte. The initiative involves the inclusion of works by Marco Lodola, Giorgio Laveri and Wal within the retail space, in dialogue with high-end clothing, footwear and accessories. The exhibition catalog Laura Mircea. Between Drifts and Movements is available at Bonioni Arte Gallery. The volume includes a critical text by Fabrizio Guerrini and a photographic documentation of the works on display, as well as additional works by the artist not included in the exhibition.
