Michelangelo arrives in Turin: drawings by the great Tuscan artist are on display at Pinacoteca Agnelli

From April 4 to July 21, 2019, Pinacoteca Giovanni and Marella Agnelli is hosting the exhibition 'Michelangelo. Drawings from Casa Buonarroti'

From April 4 to July 21, 2019, Pinacoteca Giovanni and Marella Agnelli is hosting a selection of drawings by Michelangelo (Caprese, 1475 - Rome, 1564) arriving from Casa Buonarroti in Florence. The exhibition is titled Michelangelo. Drawings from Casa Buonarroti and is curated by Alessandro Cecchi, a great expert on the Florentine Renaissance and from 2009 to 2014 director of Palazzo Pitti (today, after leaving his ministerial posts, he is a full-time researcher).

Autograph drawings arrive in Turin with studies for the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel vault, anatomy studies and architectural studies. The exhibition provides an opportunity to admire works not usually exhibited to the public.

The exhibition comes on the occasion of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death, which will also involve Piedmont and the city of Turin with the Leonardo a Torino program: the Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella fits in by focusing on a great artist who shared that season with Leonardo (rivaling him, moreover).

The installation is curated by Marco Palmieri and the catalog is published by Corraini. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with MetaMorfosi and Casa Buonarroti, the museum that preserves, in addition to the Buonarroti family archives, the world’s largest collection of Michelangelo’s graphic works. Sponsored by the City of Turin, the exhibition has the sponsorship of FIAT and the media partnership of La Stampa and Rai Radio 3. For all information you can visit the Pinacoteca Agnelli website.
