Rome, Martin Parr and Maurizio Cattelan together for the first time in iconic photo exhibition

The Academy of France in Rome presents the exhibition VillaToilet MartinMedici PaperParr, a collaboration between Martin Parr, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, from July 2 to October 31, 2021.

From July 2 to October 31, 2021, theAcademy of France in Rome - Villa Medici welcomes the VillaToilet MartinMedici PaperParr exhibition. This one, under the artistic direction of Sam Stourdzé and Cookies (Alice Grégoire and Clément Périssé, Villa Medici fellows), brings together for the first time the famous British photographer Martin Parr and the two creators of TOILETPAPER magazine, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, to create a hypnotic itinerary full of colors.

More than forty photographs will be exhibited for the occasion in an installation placed in part of the Renaissance gardens of Villa Medici. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between Martin Parr, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari for the book ToiletMartin PaperParr, published in 2020 by Damiani, which juxtaposes the most iconic images from the archives of the three artists. Main and recurring themes of the photographic project are the human body, food and animals, in images from small format to monumental prints.

The photographs on display dialogue with the landscape in an interplay that highlights the unconventional spirit shared by their three authors. Meticulously composed images and scenes captured from everyday life converse in a photographic narrative in which the vernacular and surrealist fiction mingle.
