Senigallia hosts solo exhibition of still life photographer Cristopher Broadbent

A solo exhibition by still life photographer Cristopher Broadbent runs from Oct. 29, 2021, to Feb. 28, 2022, at the Palazzo Baviera venue in Senigallia.

From Oct. 29, 2021, to Feb. 28, 2022, Senigallia City of Photography, in collaboration with the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi, will host the exhibition Rimasto nell’Ombra, a solo show dedicated to still life photographer Christopher Broadbent, curated by Mario Trevisan, at the Palazzetto Baviera venue.

The exhibition is proposed as an excursus in Christopher Broadbent’s photographic production from 2000 to the present, testifying to the research work the artist does to create an atmosphere of suspension and expectation in his still lifes.

“There is in his still lifes-we use this pictorial term not to take them out of the realm of photography, but to harken back to the equivalent expression in English and German: ’silent lives,’ as De Chirico was also fond of saying-there is in his still lifes a set of carefully investigated elements,” writes Elena Pontiggia in the introduction to the volume accompanying the exhibition, “as if the artist was not content with the approximate, the approximate, but wanted to represent with exactitude the multiplicity of things, the complexity of nature. Because nothing in the universe is simple, nothing is constructed on the cheap....”

For his photographic works, Christopher Broadbent makes archival pigment prints on cotton paper in editions of three to five; he then builds the sets that make up his photographic sets himself, preferably using natural light.

Christopher Broadbent is a photographer specializing in still-life. Born and raised in England, he studied cinematography and photography in Paris at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Cinèmatographiques. After several years in Rome as an assistant director, he moved to Milan to work in advertising and editorial photography. Awarded both in Italy and the United States for his photographic work, for the past ten years he has dedicated himself to his research around still life.

The Senigallia City of Photography project is realized with the contribution of the Marche Region.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the new volume dedicated to Christopher Broadbent’s work Rimasto nell’Ombra, edited by Mario Trevisan and published by Danilo Montanari Editore, will be presented for the first time.
