Young artists and creative madness: exhibition Mal d'Arte - Madness and Delirium opens in Lucca

In Lucca, the exhibition Mal d'Arte - Madness and Delirium, dedicated to emerging young artists, has opened at Palazzo delle Esposizioni. Between works and encounters, the event, which can be visited until Feb. 22, explores the expressive freedom and social role of contemporary art.

On Sunday, February 8, 2026, the exhibition Mal d’Arte - Follia e Delirio, an exhibition of contemporary art curated by the Mal d’Arte group, opened in Lucca at the Auditorium of the Fondazione Banca del Monte. The initiative aims to enhance young emerging artists, offering a space where personal and collective expression can manifest without constraints or prejudices. The exhibition will remain open until Feb. 22, Tuesday through Sunday, from 3 to 7 p.m., inside the Palazzo delle Esposizioni.

During the visits, the artists themselves will guide participants through their works, illustrating their creative paths and emotions, turning the enjoyment into an engaging and direct experience. The exhibition also includes a series of four thematic lectures exploring different aspects of the creativity and condition of the contemporary artist. On Feb. 10, The Tormented Artist investigates the life of the artist poised between inspiration and restlessness, addressing the relationship between creative sensibility and society, with Giulia Santarini, Emanuele Carlenzi, Francesco Scapecchi and Duccio Lazzareschi. On Feb. 12, Understanding Madness explores the boundary between thought and creation, comparing psychology and philosophy to understand how madness can be transformed into artistic language; speakers include Enrico Marchi, Tommaso Cicala, Romano Zipolini and Stefano Cascio. On Feb. 17, Finding Work as a Young Artist compares experiences of young people and art professionals on what it means to pursue a career in art today; participants include Amy Pandolfi, Alessandro Romanini and Sabrina Mattei. Finally, on Feb. 19, Arte scomoda analyzes the public’s perception of introspective or provocative works and their recognition in the contemporary art context, with Alessandro Romanini, Ilaria Boncompagni and Irene Scanavacca.

The event is held with the collaboration of Lucca’s Liceo Artistico Musicale Passaglia and Palazzo delle Esposizioni and enjoys the patronage of the Province and City of Lucca, CNA Lucca and Centro Studi e Ricerche Prof.Guglielmo Lippi Francesconi, with support from IAAPs and ALAP.
