The Herculaneum Archaeological Park returns to full visitation: restricted admission and reduced rates

The Archaeological Park of Herculaneum is open again. The entire archaeological area is accessible.

After being closed due to a health emergency, the Herculaneum Archaeological Park is also restarting with hours from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (last entrance at 6 p.m.) until October. Every day, except Tuesdays, visitors will be able to return to admire and walk through the archaeological site, subject to the required safety regulations.

Tickets can be purchased exclusively online at www.ticketone.it with an additional fee of 1.50 euros for presale. From the entrances on Corso Resina and Viale dei Papiri Ercolanesi, the public will be able to access for fifteen-minute time slots with a maximum number of fifteen people, including children and young people, at a time. Thus, a maximum influx of 60 people distributed in each hour is planned, amounting to a maximum of 480 admissions per day.

Facilitated rates are provided to accommodate visitors: 10 euros for a single ticket, 2 euros for a reduced ticket aimed at young people aged 18 to 25; gratuities and reductions as per regulations. Also available is the dedicated audioguideapp on the Park’s website.

Visitors will have access to the Boat Pavilion, where the boat discovered on the ancient beach and a series of objects linking Herculaneum to the sea are on display; theAntiquarium, with the permanent exhibit SplendOri. Luxury in the ornaments at Herculaneum, which houses about two hundred precious objects that belonged to the ancient Herculaneumites; the archaeological area will be accessed through the Martusciello Gallery, and from here, through a circular route, one can visit the entire excavation, freely modulating the overall duration of one’s visit with the help of the indications provided by the security staff and signage.

In this first phase the focus will be on a concrete aspect, thanks to the support of the Park staff, of orientation signage, intensified sanitation of common areas, availability of gels with dispensers. For the second phase, the first steps toward increasingly digitized services are already mapped out.

“The Park is coming back to life,” said Director Francesco Sirano, "we are returning to welcome our visitors with joy but without forgetting the pain and uncertainties that these months have brought us. We are convinced that with our service the UNESCO site of Herculaneum will contribute to the recovery and revitalization of our territory and cultural initiatives at the national and international level. Security, flexibility, confidence and enthusiasm in ensuring a concrete knowledge experience are our benchmarks in this new challenge. Our friendly visitors will be able to enjoy the site at the relaxed pace it has always allowed and in the incredible atmosphere that this unique treasure chest of knowledge and sensations can offer.
With the subsidized rate we have thought of a welcome that gradually returns to normal, we have tweaked the cost in the knowledge that the conformation of the Park allows us to offer a rewarding visit virtually unchanged from that of the past months. We are also ready to launch a season pass priced at only 13 euros as a promotion until the start of the winter schedule, a cost equivalent to that of the pre-COVID19 ticket, which will allow for one calendar year from the purchase to access the site whenever you want, the exhibitions and all the initiatives we have rescheduled between 2020 and 2021. We will be vigilant in respecting and enforcing all regulations that protect the safety of anyone who enters the gates of the Park, and true to the symbol of Hercules, hero of the city, resilient we will rise up, together with the whole territory, to progressively regain spaces and times of the past."
