40 million to museums, cinemas, theaters and concert halls against the effects of high bills

Forty million to theaters, cinemas, concert halls, museums, and for cultural institutes and places that have suffered in the past year from increased costs of electricity and gas bills. Minister Sangiuliano signs the decree.

Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano has signed a decree aimed at mitigating the effects of high utility bills.

"Forty million for theaters, cinemas, concert halls, museums and cultural institutions and places that have suffered in the last year from the increase in the cost of electricity and gas bills,“ the minister explained. ”A measure for those sectors that perform a very important cultural service, and which have been severely tested by the energy crisis following the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Fundamental support to avoid the risk of closures and therefore a reduction in cultural offerings, but also thepossible risk of an increase in the cost of tickets, which would inevitably disincentivize public participation, undermining the first signs of recovery."

15 million goes to theaters and concert halls, 15 million to movie theaters, and 10 million to museums, archaeological areas and parks, and monumental complexes, both public (not under the Ministry of Culture) and private.

The grant will be used to offset the increase in expenses related to electricity and gas supply in 2022 compared to pre-pandemic bills. The sums will be awarded in proportion to the difference between the amount of supply costs incurred in 2022 compared to the same period in 2019, as reflected in the invoices attached to eligible applications.

Interested parties, in addition to having a registered office in Italy and being up to date with the payment of social security contributions, will have to meet specific requirements.

Theater and concert halls:

The owner or those who continuously manage one or more halls in operation, with a capacity of at least 80 seats, and who have organized, during 2022, a minimum number of performances (at least 40 theatrical performances or 15 concerts), substantiated by appropriate documentation, will be eligible for funding.

Movie theaters:

It will be necessary to have held at least 250 performances during 2022 in the hall for which the grant is being applied for.

Museums, archaeological areas and parks, and monumental complexes:

It will be necessary to demonstrate opening to the public for at least 24 hours per week or, in the case of seasonal openings, for at least 160 days in 2022.

Within 10 days from the date of registration of the decree by the supervisory bodies, the relevant MiC General Directorates (Live Entertainment, Cinema and Audiovisual, Museums) will each publish on their websites a special notice setting out the procedures and deadlines for submitting the relevant applications.
