Florence, from May 3 admission by reservation to Giotto's Bell Tower

From May 3, 2023, to visit Giotto's Bell Tower in Florence, it will be necessary to reserve an entrance time, to facilitate visits and gradually eliminate long waiting lines and to reduce pressure on the monument.

As of May 3, 2023, to visit Giotto’s Bell Tower in Florence ("Giotto pass" ticket holders) will be required to reserve an entrance time. TheOpera di Santa Maria del Fiore has decided to adopt this system, already used with excellent results for Brunelleschi’s Dome, in order to facilitate visits and gradually eliminate the long waiting lines that form to access the monument. In addition, the goal is to reduce pressure on the monument, promoting better preservation of it. The first bookable entrance to visit the Bell Tower will be at 8:15 a.m. and the last at 6:45 p.m., for a total of fifteen daily entrances for a maximum of 120 people at a time.

Another important new feature is the opening, as of May 1, of a luggage deposit at Piazza Duomo 38/r (next to the Museum entrance), where visitors to the Dome will have to leave bulky items such as backpacks, packages, containers, and large bags free of charge. Sixty percent of visitors who access the Dome, in fact, show up with bulky luggage, especially backpacks, which slows down controls and does not allow a smooth visit to the monument’s visitors, having to walk up 463 steep steps and down as many.

“This is a free service that the Opera offers to Brunelleschi pass holders, and it is our institution’s intention to gradually extend it to all visitors to our monuments,” explains Director General Lorenzo Luchetti. The luggage deposit regulations, complete with all the directions to follow, will be available at the post itself, as well as on the Opera’s website (which can also be downloaded in PDF format) and at ticket offices with a QR Code.

In support of these changes, staff will be available at the entrances to the Campanile, the Crypt of Santa Reparata, the Baptistery, the Museum and on the Cathedral’s churchyard to facilitate entry by providing information in multiple languages.

The monuments of Florence Cathedral, apart from the entrance to the Cathedral which is free of charge, can be visited by purchasing three types of tickets: the"Brunelleschi pass" which includes a visit to the Dome, the Bell Tower, the Crypt of Santa Reparata, the Baptistery and the Museum of the Opera del Duomo; the"Giotto pass" with which the monuments and the Museum are visited except for the Dome; and the"Ghiberti pass" to visit the Baptistery, the Crypt of Santa Reparata and the Museum. All three tickets are valid for three days from the day of activation.
