Rome, Ministry of Culture and Railways sign protocol for urban regeneration interventions

In Rome, State Railways and the Ministry of Culture sign a protocol to preserve the capital's rich cultural heritage and to promote urban regeneration interventions.

Following a meeting between FS Sistemi Urbani, the Soprintendenza Speciale Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Rome and the Lazio Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday in Rome aimed at preserving the capital’s rich cultural heritage and promoting urban regeneration interventions. The agreement establishes an unprecedented mode of collaboration between the parties involved, aimed at ensuring that urban regeneration projects respect the preservation requirements of the historic-artistic context of the eternal city.

One of the central aspects of the Protocol will be the definition and sharing of specific Design Guidelines for each area involved. This tool will be fundamental for guiding and regulating the elaboration of individual initiatives. In addition, the collaboration will make it possible to work in parallel with the procedures of verification of cultural interest, as provided for in Legislative Decree 42/2004, on the properties and areas located in urban areas affected by urban transformations.

The “Guidelines for the design of the area of the disused railway areas of the Roma Tuscolana station” were then presented. This is an initiative of strategic importance for the city of Rome, since it concerns an area of about 50,000 square meters located between via Appia, via Tuscolana and via Casilina. This initiative, which is expected to be approved soon by Roma Capitale, is considered an important piece in the city’s urban regeneration process.
