Villa Sciarra enters the heritage of Roma Capitale. Planned plan for redevelopment

Villa Sciarra enters the heritage of Roma Capitale. Overall redevelopment program planned for a total expenditure of about 11 million of the Pnrr.

TheCapitoline Assembly has approved the freeacquisition of Villa Sciarra to the heritage of Roma Capitale.

The proposal presented is the result of a technical table between Roma Capitale, Agenzia del Demanio and the Ministry of Culture. For a total expenditure of about 11 million of the Pnrr Caput Mundi, the regeneration program of the villa aims to systematize in a time frame of ten years the future actions of all the Offices of Roma Capitale that concur, by competence, to the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the Villa, its restoration and its enhancement. And it includes an integrated plan of interventions attributed to the different structures of Roma Capitale to allow, following the acquisition of the asset by the Administration, the activation of a virtuous process of valorization.

“We are taking an important step to bring Villa Sciarra, one of the oldest in Rome, back to its former glory,” said Tobia Zevi, councillor for Heritage and Housing Policies. “Thanks to the collaboration between Roma Capitale and state institutions, as well as that with aldermen Alfonsi and Gotor, the villa enters the Municipal Heritage and will be maintained, restored and enhanced with 11 million euros from the PNRR. This is a huge opportunity not only for the residents of Monteverde but for the entire Capital.”

“The entry of Villa Sciarra into the heritage of Roma Capitale is great news for the city. The acquisition of full ownership of this wonderful urban park of great importance to the history of the Capital - just think of the furious fighting that took place there during the siege of Rome by French troops in 1849 - and the Enhancement Program that has been put in place will allow us to make it the setting for new and important city cultural events,” added Culture Councillor Miguel Gotor.

“With the acquisition of Villa Sciarra we can start an overall redevelopment program. In addition to the restoration and functional renovation of the historic buildings, fountains, statues and decorative elements, there is a major plan for the recovery and redevelopment of the villa’s green heritage financed with more than 2 million euros,” stressed Sabrina Alfonsi, councillor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle. “The aim is to preserve and enhance the important historical and landscape value of the park, with the arrangement of paths, the creation of new flower beds, the replanting of palm trees, the care of lawn areas, the planting of flowering shrub species, the redevelopment of the aviary and the creation of a new educational garden. With these interventions, which are in addition to the great work undertaken on the capital’s historic villas, we aim to revive Villa Sciarra, enhancing its unique and rich green heritage, keeping intact its rare elegance and charm.”
