Work has begun on the restoration of Casa Pasolini, the first Roman home of the famous poet and director, located on Via Giovanni Tagliere, on the northeastern outskirts of the capital, a short walk from the Rebibbia prison. Once the interventions are finished, in fact, the house will be open to the public.
This apartment, in which Pier Paolo Pasolini lived from 1951 to 1954 together with his mother, while he was teaching at a school in Ciampino, is at the center of an important project promoted by the General Directorate for Museums and the Pantheon and Castel Sant’Angelo Institute - National Museums Directorate of the city of Rome, already responsible for house museums such as those of Andersen, Boncompagni Ludovisi, Mario Praz and Giacomo Manzù.
The work, which will be completed by October 2025, involves upgrading the facilities to ensure safety and comfort for visitors, recovering the original finishes and relevant furnishings, and re-functionalizing the bathroom and kitchen. The aim is to make the apartment open to the public on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Pasolini’s death, transforming it into a living place of culture and memory, in constant dialogue with the territory. The initiative is the result of collaboration with the Municipality IV of Roma Capitale and local cultural associations, involved in a shared path of enhancement. The project also includes the creation of a thematic library, the activation of guided tours, public readings (including streaming), educational and research initiatives, and in the future activities in collaboration with the Rebibbia prison and scholarships for young artists.
Thanks to a donation from producer Pietro Valsecchi, the apartment was acquired by the Ministry of Culture and is now part of the national museum network. Casa Pasolini thus adds to the places that preserve the legacy of one of the greatest intellectuals of the 20th century, strengthening the role of the suburbs as spaces of culture, memory and future.
