A public platform for the discussion of new guidelines forpreventive archaeology: it was launched in recent hours by theNational Association of Archaeologists, which convened, after more than ten years since the last meeting, the States General of Italian Archaeology, together with FCdA - Federation of University Archaeology Councils, Archeoimprese, API - Archaeologists in Public Employment and Assotecnici, whose work began yesterday, Saturday, Feb. 24, in the ten-year tourismA in Florence.
At the opening of the conference, the ANA launched a proposal for collaboration open to the entire scientific community for the development of the new Guidelines for Preventive Archaeology, a document required by the new Public Contracts Code, as per Annex 1.8 article 1, paragraph 11 of Legislative Decree No. 36/2023. In fact, the new Procurement Code provides for the issuance of new Guidelines for Preventive Archaeology, so the National Association of Archaeologists (ANA) is making available to the entire scientific community the platform developed by its Scientific Technical Committee, picking up an idea of the Central Institute for Archaeology (ICA), launched at the Roman conference on preventive archaeology last July 2023.
The action promoted by the ANA stems from the need to equip professionals and the discipline with a tool that takes into account all needs: the protection of cultural heritage, the operation of contracting stations, the quality of the work of professionals and in general the image of archaeology in our country using a shared and participatory approach.
“A month from today we are all convened again to discuss the platform, work out proposals and changes, and deliver to the Central Institute for Archaeology a text that is the result of shared elaboration,” say Alessandro Garrisi and Marcella Giorgio, National President and Vice President. “For the first time in Italy we are proceeding with a real public confrontation aimed at the enactment of a norm that impacts the profession of all Italian archaeologists.”
“The new Public Contracts Code on preventive archaeology has a new and ambitious approach,” says Paolo Güll President of the ANA Technical Scientific Committee. “This is an opportunity that requires clear, innovative, and courageous guidelines, because it is a challenge that we cannot afford to lose.”
