Klimt's Kiss becomes an NFT. And each unique part can be purchased for Valentine's Day.

The Belvedere Museum in Vienna will transform Klimt's Kiss into an NFT work on the occasion of Valentine's Day. Each of the 10,000 unique NFTs resulting from its subdivision will then be offered for sale for a special gift accompanied by a declaration of love.

On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, in collaboration with artèQ, will transform one of its most famous masterpieces, Gustav Klimt’s Kiss, into an NFT work. A high-resolution digital copy of the work will then be divided into ten thousand unique individual parts that will be offered for sale as NFTs. In addition, everyone who purchases a single part will be able to register as the owner of their piece on thekiss.art platform, where the image will be visible in its entirety.

The ten thousand NFTs are estimated at around 1850 euros each, and a personal declaration of love can be added to each part via the platform-a special Valentine’s Day gift that can be read starting right from February 14.

“What does it mean to own a work of art in the digital age? The advent of NFTs have given an impetus to this question,” commented Belvedere Museum General Director Stella Rolling. “The conversion of digital reproductions into virtual originals opens the door to new forms of participation that, in economic terms, should be taken seriously, but also playfully.”

The Belvedere expects a high level of interest from NFT collectors. “The fact that each piece is unique is what makes these tokens so valuable,” added Wolfgang Bergmann, the museum’s administrative director. “We are proud that artèQ’s innovative technology was chosen for this unique project,” concluded Farbod Sadeghian, founder of artèQ.
