"Pompeii latest discovery," Sunday 27 on Rai2 docu-film on the latest excavation results

The unprecedented documentary 'Pompeii Latest Discovery,' which reveals to the public the results of the latest excavation campaigns, airs on Rai2 on Dec. 27 at 9 p.m.

Airing on Rai2 at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, is the docu-film Pompeii ultima scoperta, dedicated to the latest results of the excavations conducted in the Pompeii Archaeological Park, particularly those in Regio V, which also unearthed the now famous thermopolis discovered in 2019, of which more images have been released in the last hours after the work progressed (the documentary will reveal additional images for the first time). With this film, Rai Documentari, also intends to invite the general public to follow the discoveries at the most important archaeological site in Europe through a documentary that reconstructs, thanks also to a detailed fiction, the circumstances and the last moments of life of the victims found during the very recent excavations. Rai presents Pompeii latest discovery as “an unprecedented fusion of science and emotions.”

The docu-film, is a documentary project co-produced by Gedeon Programmes and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, in collaboration with France Télévisions, RTBF Télévision belge, Documentary Unit EBU Coproduction Fund. Directed by Pierre Stine, it just won the award for best multi-format project at the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers 2020. The film took two years of work during which the cameras followed the latest excavation and securing work in the Archaeological Park, recounting the hard work, dedication, emotions, and joy of all those who work hard every day to restore light, identity, and a new life to the story.

Accompanying viewers in their discovery of ancient Pompeii will be Massimo Osanna, Director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park (currently acting) and Director General of Museums of the MIBACT. His live account and the unedited testimonies of his team of experts (archaeologists, volcanologists, restorers, paleographers, anthropologists) will reveal to the public the details of the latest findings, “making viewers relive,” the Rai note concludes, “the excitement of the archaeologists and imagine, beyond the discoveries, the daily life of the Roman city and its inhabitants.”
