"Art and Collecting" returns to Rome: 63 galleries at Palazzo Barberini Sept. 18-23

After nearly 10,000 attendees in 2023, the antiques fair-market moves to Palazzo Barberini. More exhibitors, unseen works and a program of industry meetings.

After the inaugural edition, the Art and Collectibles exhibition-market returns to Rome, scheduled for Sept. 18-23, 2025 in the new venue of Palazzo Barberini, home of the National Galleries of Ancient Art. The move from the previous exhibition space is meant to mark a step forward in the positioning of the event, which aims to strengthen the capital’s presence in the international antiques circuit.

“This second edition stems from the desire to consolidate a project that has been able to combine scientific rigor, enhancement of the antiques market and openness to the general public,” says Antiquari d’Italia Association president Bruno Botticelli. “Rome has regained its place in the European geography of antiques and we are grateful to Palazzo Barberini for welcoming us. It will be an opportunity to meet the general public, to keep alive a relationship that is fundamental to the country’s culture. The exhibition, which complements the prestigious Florence Biennale, is based on small caskets in which each antiquarian will display the works of the masters, objects of decorative art, sculpture, design and painting that follow and at the same time direct today’s taste. It is no coincidence that Italy is a destination for international tourism that is fast becoming a primary economic resource for the entire Italian system.”

The 2024 edition had recorded about 10 thousand visitors and a sales volume of several million euros. This year, the event aims to exceed those numbers, with the participation of 63 exhibitors, up from 45 last year. Exhibiting will be some of the most important Italian and international galleries, selected to ensure a high quality level of the works presented. The exhibition itinerary is conceived as an environment of dialogue and insight, a “cultural salon” in which collecting is intertwined with historical research and artistic reflection.

In addition to the traditional nuclei of painting and sculpture, ample space will be reserved for decorative arts, in line with the long tradition of Italian antiques. The goal of the initiative, organized by theAssociazione Antiquari d’Italia, remains to offer a platform of visibility and exchange to scholars, collectors and enthusiasts, in a context that privileges quality and the unprecedented. Indeed, the 2025 edition promises the presence of numerous never-before-seen works, capable of attracting a wide and varied audience.

The exhibition will also be an opportunity for discussion between operators and professionals in the sector, at a crucial time for the Italian art market, through a program of events and meetings. In recent weeks, in fact, a government measure was introduced that reduced the VAT rate on sales and imports of works of art in Italy from 22 percent to 5 percent. A measure that, according to organizers, could help boost the sector and attract new investors, both domestic and international. And this will certainly be discussed as well.
