Dante's Train returns. From Florence to Ravenna in a day on a historic train

Dante's Train reaches its third edition and returns again this 2023. A day aboard a historic train that will travel through the heart of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines to discover the lands that Dante Alighieri visited on his journey between Florence and Ravenna.

The historic Centoporte train made available by the Fondazione FS Italiane that departs from Florence and arrives in Ravenna and then returns to the Tuscan capital will run on the rails again this 2023: in fact, after last year’s success with the public, Dante’s Train returns. A day on board a historic train that will cross the heart of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines to discover the lands that Dante Alighieri visited on his journey between Florence and Ravenna.

Every weekend, from April 15 to May 14 (with two special rides on April 25 and May 1) and from September 2 to November 1, there are classic one-day rides. It departs at 8:50 a.m. from Santa Maria Novella station in Florence, the city where the Supreme Poet was born, to stop first in Borgo San Lorenzo and then in Marradi. On Saturdays of Oct. 14 and 28 and Sundays of April 16, 23 and 30, May 7 and 14, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, and Oct. 1, in addition to the public holidays of April 25 and May 1, there is a one-and-a-half-hour stop in Brisighella, and then continues for a simple stop in Faenza. Instead, on the Saturdays of April 15, 22 and 29, May 6 and 13, September 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, and October 7 and 21, the train will stop in Brisighella and stop for 90 minutes in Faenza. In both cases the final stop will be Ravenna, the city where Dante died. The Train will depart for Florence again at 5:54 p.m. with stops at all the stations mentioned. Arrival is scheduled for 9 p.m.

On the occasion of the June 2 bridge, Dante’s Train is offering a novelty this year: three days of travel for a Cities of Art Cruise. It always departs from Florence, at 8:15 a.m. at the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence, ahead of the scheduled departure at 8:50 a.m. We will then stop in Brisighella, where some travel assistants will accompany travelers to the Parco Caduti di Nassiriya for the welcoming of the Medieval Festivals figurants. They will then explore the medieval village, ending with a tasting of Brisighello DOP Olive Oil. We will leave at 3:51 p.m. to stop in Ravenna, where a guided tour Tra Dante e i mosaici and an overnight stay in the city are planned. The next day will go to Ferrara, where again a guided tour of the historic center and overnight stay is planned. On Sunday, June 4, the Dante Train will resume its journey to Bologna, and the guided tour Dante and the Middle Ages will depart from the central Piazza Re Enzo. Boarding the Train again, it will arrive in Florence at 6:11 p.m.

The Dante’s Train project is funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region and developed by Apt Servizi Emilia-Romagna, Toscana Promozione Turistica and organized by the company Il Treno di Dante s.r.l.
