Michelangelo Pistoletto creates the sculpture The Third Paradise of Talents for Cuneo.

Michelangelo Pistoletto creates in Cuneo a new version of his Third Paradise, 13 meters long by 7 meters high, with the famous shape of 3 consecutive circles. It is made from more than 120 metal silkscreens and will be placed at the Rondò dei Talenti.

It will be inaugurated on Friday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in Cuneo at the Rondò dei Talenti Il Terzo Paradiso dei Talenti, the site-specific sculpture created by Michelangelo Pistoletto (Biella, 1933) for “A cielo aperto,” the public art project conceived by the CRC Foundation to celebrate its 30th birthday and carried out in collaboration with the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art.

The work was specially developed by the artist for the area in front of the Rondò dei Talenti, in relation to the curvature of the building and the structure of the square. The sculpture, which measures 13 meters in length by 7 meters in height, features the famous shape of 3 consecutive circles made from more than120 metal silkscreens on which are represented the drawings of children from a number of schools in Cuneo, and beyond ,who contributed to the participatory sculpture. The installation of the work will begin in the coming days, growing and consolidating under the eyes of the city and its citizens. The inauguration will be preceded, at 4 p.m., by a shared action of participatory public art that will see the sign-symbol of the “Third Paradise” reworked with aluminum materials in order to create a temporary collective work.

On the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 15, also at the Rondo dei Talenti, a workshop for children and families on the theme of the “Third Paradise” is scheduled at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. (both Friday, Oct. 14, and for the workshop on Saturday, Oct. 15, it is preferable to make reservations at www.fondazionecrc.it.)

The work

Michelangelo Pistoletto’s sign-symbol of the Third Paradise, which reconfigures the mathematical sign of infinity by adding to its center a third circle representing synthesis and creation, to promote new connections and interactions between opposing polarities, has been the centerpiece of this artist’s work since the early 2000s, and has been the inspiration for numerous of his sculptural and participatory interventions over the past two decades and globally. The sculpture was specially developed by the artist for the exterior area of the Rondò dei Talenti building, in relation to the curvature of the building and the structure of the square. It presents the symbol vertically, suspended in the air as a large sign that emphasizes the presence of the Rondo, and is made by silk-screening on metal and joining together more than one hundred and twenty drawings by child students - including some who attend the Cuneo schools of theArnaud and Fillia preschools, Revelli and Rolfi primary schools, and D’Azeglio secondary schools in Cuneo and Castelletto Stura - collected by the Education Department of the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Rebirth/Terzo Paradiso Cuneo Embassy and the Con.Te.StoOo. In this way, the work underscores the special mission of the Rondò dei Talenti itself, an educational hub desired by the CRC Foundation, where younger people can, through specific proposed activities, grow and discover their vocations, their “talents.”

“The unprecedented sculpture by Michelangelo Pistoletto, an internationally renowned artist,” says Ezio Raviola, president of Fondazione CRC. “represents the completion in a cultural key of the redevelopment of the Rondò dei Talenti. It is an extraordinary work inspired by the educational and collective growth values that guided us in the creation of this educational hub, and it leaves a mark for the 30 years of our institution’s life. In addition to the profound cultural significance that accompanies the inauguration of ’The Third Paradise of Talents,’ we are persuaded that this work will be able to become a point of attraction for the flow of international tourism.”
