Sustainable packaging and crafts: a free webinar on Zoom on December 4

Artex and Lucense are organizing an online meeting dedicated to artistic and traditional handicraft companies to learn more about materials, solutions and trends in sustainable packaging. The event is part of the activities of the European project Ale.

It focuses on the possibilities offered by innovative materials and paper in the new round of Innovation Webinars, scheduled for Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. on Zoom. The meeting, which is free of charge and open to companies in the artistic and traditional crafts sector, is promoted by Artex in collaboration with Lucense, a research organization active in the fields of industrial research, experimental development and technology transfer. The event is part of the actions of the Art Lab Net Evolution (Ale) project, funded by the European Union through the Interreg Italy-France Maritime program, which started in February 2025 and runs until January 2027.

The webinar will provide an overview of the main innovations in the field of sustainable packaging, with a specific focus on the needs of artisan companies. The spread of eco-responsible packaging, including packaging for food products, is one of the major fronts of development in the context of artistic and traditional production. During the meeting, alternative materials and solutions based on organic polymers will be examined, as well as the most advanced applications in the field of paper, with the aim of providing an up-to-date and scientifically based picture of the prospects for the sector. The initiative is the first step in a broader path that the Ale project is dedicating to companies with registered offices in the provinces of Massa and Carrara, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno and Grosseto. Companies in these territories, subject to participation in the dedicated call for proposals, will be given the opportunity to access free consulting services aimed at learning more about aspects related to food and non-food packaging. The initiative aims to strengthen the competitiveness of artisan realities by offering concrete tools for the adoption of more sustainable solutions consistent with regulations and market demand.

Elisa Guidi, coordinator of Artex; Miriam Cappello of the University of Pisa; SimoneGiangrandi, head of Lucense’s Research and Innovation area, together with colleagues Stefan Guerra and GiorgiaCalabrese; and Beatrice Marsili, coordinator of the Paper-Lucense Quality Center, will take part in the discussion. The reports will provide a technical and up-to-date overview of developments in applied materials research and innovation opportunities for micro and small businesses. The Ale project aims to support the entrepreneurial fabric of the artistic and traditional handicraft, agri-food and perfume production sectors in the Franco-Italian territories involved in the Interreg Italy-France Maritime program. The areas involved include Tuscany, Liguria, Sardinia, Corsica and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The platform of initiatives envisaged by the project aims to encourage the modernization of production processes, with particular reference to the themes of sustainability, technological innovation and the enhancement of artisan skills. Starting in 2021, the Innovation Webinars represent for Artex a constant update tool aimed at productive activities in the artistic and traditional sectors, as well as designers, entities and organizations interested in innovation processes. The goal is to disseminate useful information for business development, illustrating trends, methods and case studies that weave together craftsmanship, digitization and technological transformation.

A dedicated page on the Artex website is available for information. Registration for the Dec. 4 event can be made through the official webinar link. Businesses interested in free services under the Ale project’s call for proposals can contact ale@lucense.it.
