An exhibition in Rome celebrates the great cartoonist Andrea Pazienza 30 years after his death

The exhibition 'Andrea Pazienza, Thirty Years Without' opens at the Rome Slaughterhouse from May 25 to July 15, 2018.

As we had anticipated in this news, the exhibition Andrea Pazienza, thirty years without, opened on May 25 in the spaces of the Mattatoio in Rome, together with ARF! Festival and which, unlike the event now in its fourth edition, will run until July 15, 2018. It was June 16, 1988 when Andrea Pazienza tragically disappeared in Montepulciano, at the age of only 32, and the exhibition aims to pay homage to his artistic work on the 30th anniversary of his death.

Pazienza was a visionary and underground cartoonist, and his works were ironic and irreverent, but at the same time riffling and poetic. His works include "The Extraordinary Adventures of Pentothal," the unfinished "History of Astarte," and "The Last Days of Pompey," considered his masterpiece. His most famous character was the cynical Zanardi, the protagonist of some plates such as "Pacco," "Cuore di mamma," and "Cinderella 1987."

The anthological exhibition displays 120 plates and will be accompanied by a catalog published by Coconino Press - Fandango libri.“With this event, which is in its fourth year, we aim to make known, but not discover because we already know it, the marked cultural connotation of the world of comics, with the immense consideration it deserves,” said Stefano Piccoli, founder of ARF and among the curators of the exhibition.

Mariella Pazienza, sister of the author, said, “Andrea was a multifaceted artist, painter, illustrator, mural designer, but it was in comics that he found the highest expression of communication. The choice of the plates to be displayed in the exhibition respected the importance that Andrea gave to this phase of his artistic career, and is a very valuable tool to get to know the man and the artist.”
