At the Colosseum Archaeological Park, a photo exhibition takes us on a discovery of Carthage

A new rendezvous at the Colosseum Archaeological Park with Tunisian culture: Carthage ou la memoire des pierres, a photographic exhibition by Greek-Tunisian-born artist Marianne Catzaras. Twelve black-and-white photographs, all taken during the past year in Tunisia, are displayed as part of the exhibition Carthago. The Immortal Myth, from Dec. 17, 2019 to March 29, 2020.

The exhibition, set up in the Imperial Ramp in the Roman Forum, takes a contemporary look at the section of the show that recounts the re-foundation of the new Colonia Concordia Iulia Carthago, after the destruction following the end of the Third Punic War: a monumental city, equipped with show buildings and luxurious private residences, famous everywhere for their mosaic wealth. Indeed, extraordinary mosaics such as the Lady of Carthage are displayed here.

Right here, at the end of the route of the exhibition Carthago. The Immortal Myth, there still seemed to be a missing piece to complete the narrative of what remains today of the great Mediterranean metropolis: indeed, it does not live only in the imagination, but continues to breathe and communicate, even in the stillness of its stones.

Carthage ou la memoire des pierres was born, therefore, from the desire to tell through the images and photographs of an artist with a plural identity (as she likes to call herself) the concept of immortality of Carthage, the profound value of Mediterranean culture, the desire to believe in diversity and in mixing traces.
