From May 17 to June 22, 2025 MAGMA presents ENDLESS SUMMER, the first edition of a three-year exhibition cycle hosted in the spaces of the Magazzino del Sale in Cervia. The project aims to explore curating as a shared practice, proposing a plural vision capable of capturing the complexity and mutability of the contemporary art scene.
ENDLESS SUMMER is proposed as a collective experience based on dialogue, where eight curators, belonging to different generations, each following their personal inclinations and specific research interests, have selected 43 female artists and visual artists - including established names from the contemporary Italian scene - to reflect together on the theme ofsummer understood as eternal possibility. A season in which time expands, light pervades everything and new perceptions emerge, opening spaces to unexpected desires and perspectives. The exhibition anchors itself to this suspended temporality, evoking it as a psychological as well as climatic condition: a time when emotion and transience merge, where excitement is intertwined with nostalgia.
The title takes its cue from Bruce Brown’s documentary of the same name Endless Summer, filmed in the 1960s, which follows a group of surfers on their journey between the two hemispheres in search of anendless summer. This very concept-the utopian idea of a season that extends beyond its boundaries-is at the symbolic heart of the exhibition: a mythical and idealized time.
The works presented range between different languages-painting, sculpture, video, photography, collage-and are placed in relation according to a fluid and non-hierarchical curatorial logic, a kind of exhibition jam session where the resonance between the works arises from spontaneous affinities, trust and mutual listening.
ENDLESS S UMMER is meant to invite you to experience the exhibition in the same spirit with which you experience summer: with intensity, openness and the awareness that every moment is both full and destined to fade away.
