Charles Szymkowicz's works celebrate Remembrance Day in Siena

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, Siena opens an exhibition focusing on the drawings and paintings of Belgian neo-expressionist artist Charles Szymkowicz.

The city of Siena celebrates Holocaust Memorial Day with the opening of the exhibition"Mémoire du passé.Mémoire du futur" focusing on the works of Charles Szymkowicz (Charleroi, 1948): a Belgian painter, son of Polish Jews, considered one of the most significant European neo-expressionist artists.

An exhibition, divided into eleven sections, takes the visitor through 134 works, drawings and paintings, created in Szymkowicz’s neo-expressionist and personal language.
His works deal with the theme of memory by depicting portraits of ethically significant figures and tragic events of the 20th century.

The exhibition, curated by Enrico Crispolti, runs between the Magazzini del Sale of the Palazzo Pubblico, Santa Maria della Scala and the Rooms of Memory and will be on view free of charge until June 3, 2018.
