Crypta Balbi welcomes widespread project with Tapestries by the Numero Cromatico collective

The underground archaeological areas of the Crypta Balbi welcome from Nov. 12 to Dec. 11, 2022 the widespread project of the collective Numero Cromatico. Unpublished works from the Arazzi series will be on display.

From November 12 to December 11, 2022, the National Roman Museum presents the project Eternal struggle of my desire by the collective Numero Cromatico in the Crypta Balbi venue. This is a widespread project in the underground archaeological areas of the Crypta Balbi that intends to relate previously unseen works from the Arazzi series to the history of the site and its particular architectural morphology.

Numero Cromatico’s research moves from the mechanisms of human perception in relation to the work of art, to the design of multi-sensory environments and paths, to the use of natural materials and artificial intelligences for the construction of ambiguous and activating devices for the observer.

“The Crypta Balbi venue is preparing for a great season of renewal and urban regeneration, which we wanted to anticipate with the exhibition in its spaces of Numero Cromatico’s innovative art project,” said Stéphane Verger, director of the National Roman Museum.

"The Tapestries of Chromatic Number reactivate the energy, suggestions and history of these spaces, returned to the public with renewed visibility, usability and continuity,“ Ludovico Pratesi stressed. ”In this sense present and past, technology and nature, contemporary art and archaeology collaborate and work together as a single intelligent entity," adds Marco Bassan.

The project is curated by Spazio Taverna.
